'Edward Scissorhands' (1990) van Tim Burton vertelt het verhaal van Edward, een kunstmatige man met scharen in plaats van handen. Hij wordt ontdekt door Peg en meegenomen naar een keurige buitenwijk. Hoewel Edward een goed hart heeft, passen zijn schaarhanden niet in de normale wereld, wat zorgt voor zowel mooie als chaotische momenten. De film draait om anders zijn, acceptatie en hoe moeilijk het kan zijn om je plek te vinden in een maatschappij die niet van afwijking houdt.
Timothy Walter Burton, een Amerikaanse tekenaar, filmregisseur en producent, staat bekend om zijn donkere humor, gotische stijl en referenties aan cartoons en horrorfilms. Voor mijn portfolio koos ik de film *Edward Scissorhands* om een langspeelfilm te reduceren tot één statisch beeld door middel van vorm, kleur en typografie. De uitdaging was om een spannende compositie te creëren die de sfeer van de film perfect weergeeft.
Door het ritme, de structuur en de atmosfeer van de film te begrijpen, heb ik het teruggebracht tot een uniek visueel beeld dat specifiek voor 'Edward Scissorhands' staat. Een filmposter moet opvallen tussen de massa aan communicatie, dus ik koos voor een helder en krachtig beeld in een diagonale verwijzende compositie. Het resultaat is een origineel werk, gecreëerd door een combinatie van textuur brushes en een grijzblauw kleurenpalet, dat de essentie van Burtons meesterwerk in één frame vangt.

Timothy Walter Burton, an American illustrator, film director, and producer, is known for his dark humor, gothic style, and references to cartoons and horror films. For my portfolio, I chose the film *Edward Scissorhands* to reduce an entire feature film into a single static image using shape, color, and typography. The challenge was to create a captivating composition that perfectly captures the film’s mood and atmosphere.
Understanding the rhythm, structure, and atmosphere of the film, I distilled it into a unique visual that represents *Edward Scissorhands* alone. A movie poster must stand out amidst the constant stream of communication, so I opted for a clear, striking image. The result is an original piece, created through a blend of illustration and graphic techniques (mixed media), capturing the essence of Burton's masterpiece in a single frame.
